IPEN stands for In-Person Electronic Notarization. This sets IPEN apart from Remote Online Notarization (RON), where the signer and notary are in different locations and the entire process is conducted through a secure audio-video platform over the internet. Mobile Notarization, on the other hand, refers to a traditional notarization service where a commissioned notary physically travels to the signer’s location. This service uses pen-and-paper and involves no digital technology.

The documents required vary based on the type of notarization you need. Typically, you'll need a valid government-issued ID and the documents to be notarized. In Florida, a notary public may accept an expired ID if it was issued within the last five years and contains a serial or identifying number, as stated in Florida Statute section 117.05(5)(b)2. Alternatively, the notary can accept the oath or affirmation from two credible witnesses who are personally known to them and can confirm the signer's identity.
